Your Clinical
Follow-up
When you begin your treatment at DaVita, you will have an initial assessment consultation, where your clinical situation will be reviewed and dialysis and medication prescriptions will be made.
Your initial assessment upon admission will involve not only the nephrologist but also other members of the multidisciplinary team who will be caring for you, including a nurse, nutritionist, pharmacist, and social worker. From that moment on, you will always have these professionals available to support you and you will have an assistant nephrologist, who will be responsible for your clinical follow-up and will carry out routine consultations at the appropriate intervals. At any time, you can request an urgent consultation or simply an exchange of views with your nephrologist.
In addition, during your dialysis session, you will always be monitored by a resident physician (who may even be your nephrologist) and by the dialysis nurse, who will be permanently available to resolve any occasional problems. You can take advantage of the regular medical visit by the resident physician during each dialysis session to request medication, present your clinical complaints, or simply clarify any questions.
Your clinical monitoring includes monthly tests, the results of which will be evaluated by your nephrologist and may lead to changes in your medication. After being read and recorded, the test results will be given to you.
You should also undergo certain complementary diagnostic tests (ECG, echocardiogram, radiological tests, etc.), which are necessary for the proper monitoring of your health. Your doctor will discuss the most relevant aspects of these tests with you. Unless you request them, the tests will be kept in your medical file and may be provided in certain situations, such as to show your family doctor, present at a hospital specialty consultation, or at a pre-kidney transplant consultation.
